Basic concepts of abrasives

1, the meaning of abrasive

   Abrasive is a grinding wheel, sand tile, oil stone, grinding head, abrasive paste made of bonding ordinary abrasives with a bond according to certain requirements, and is used for grinding, grinding and polishing tools.

2, the structure of the abrasive

The abrasive is composed of three elements: abrasive particles, binders and pores.

The abrasive grain ---- is the main body that constitutes the abrasive, and the edges and corners exposed on the surface of the abrasive are used as cutting edges to cut the workpiece.

The binder ---- the bonding material and plays the role of consolidating the abrasive particles, so that the abrasive has a certain shape, sufficient strength and required hardness.

The porosity ---- is the void inside the abrasive, which has the function of removing chips and containing coolant.

The volume relationship between the three is:

V abrasive + V binder + V pores = 100

In order to improve the cooling, lubrication and finish performance of the abrasive, the substance filled with impregnating agent in the pores of the abrasive (such as sulfur immersion, wax immersion, and resin immersion) can also be called the fourth element.
